The Helen Boyd Higgins Memorial Library of the Burt Lake Christian
Church has republished the late Robert C. Sager's book, "The
Pageant of Tuscarora." The book, originally published in
1975, details the early settlement history of Tuscarora Township.
Sager had 1,000 copies of the book printed in 1975 and those sold
out long ago. After the book came out, it spurred a lot of interest
in local history and other people gave Sager additional photos
and information. That led to publication of a supplement. The
supplement to "The Pageant of Tuscarora" came out in
1980.
Prior to Sager's death in 1996 an effort was initiated to republish
the book, but the effort was never carried through. Local librarians
and Sager's widow, Jean Sager, frequently are asked if there are
any copies of the book available for purchase, but at this time
there just aren't.
Current members of the Higgins Library board have picked up the
ball on the republication project. They've talked to a printer
and found that another 1,000 copies of the book can be reprinted.
The reprinted version will include the original book plus the
supplement. The price of the hardcover reprint will be $42 per
copy, or $39 if ordered prior to publication.
Phone requests may be directed to Peggy Harris at 347-4875 or
Jean Sager at 238-7258. Orders may also be sent to: Burt Lake
Christian Church, P.O. Box 4205, Burt Lake MI 49717.
